In Loving Memory of  Yvette Craig Sunrise: October 3, 1961 • Sunset: March 31, 2025

Yvette Craig affectionately known as Tank, a proud Washingtonian known for her warm heart, quiet strength, and deep devotion to family, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2025, at the age of 63.

Born and raised in Washington, D.C., Yvette was the beloved daughter of the late Alzena Blakes and Gary Blakes, Sr. She attended D.C. Public Schools, where she built lifelong friendships and developed her love for community. In her early years, Yvette served in the Army Reserves, an experience that allowed her to explore the world and further shaped her independent and resilient spirit.

Yvette's life was rich with the things she loved most: family, travel, home projects, gardening, and giving. At the first sign of spring, you could find her in her garden, tending to her plants with care and joy. She also had a knack for transforming a space and always had a new home improvement project in the works. She was the kind of person who found happiness in the little things—shopping for small, thoughtful gifts, sneaking in trinkets for her loved ones, and spreading joy through her generosity.

Family was everything to Yvette. She had a deep love for her siblings, cousins, nieces, and nephews—and always made sure they felt it. Her home was a gathering place filled with laughter, love, and an open door. Her greatest joy was being a mother to her daughter, Shaumia Craig. The bond they shared was unbreakable. No matter how grown Shaumia became, she was always her mother's baby. Yvette's eyes would light up whenever she spoke of her daughter and their many adventures together. She also had a special place in her heart for her grandpup, Stella.

Professionally, Yvette held various roles throughout her life, including positions at the Department of Treasury, MCI Center, and Lustine's. For over 20 years, she was a dedicated member of the Inova Healthcare System, where she formed lasting connections with colleagues.

Yvette's legacy lives on through the love she shared and the memories she leaves behind. She will be remembered for her kindness, unwavering determination, and the joy she brought into the lives of others. She also leaves behind five siblings: Gloria Blakes, Gary Blakes, Mary White, Tony Blakes, and Kevin Blakes. She is preceded in death by her sister Thomascine LaFrance and her brother Larry Blakes.
